The Chinese president has announced $60 billion worth of investment in countries across Africa. Xi Jinping made the pledge in South Africa at the opening of a trade and investment summit in Johannesburg. But Chinese investments in Africa have sometimes been problematic. Chinese firms operating on the continent have been accused of wiping out local players and abusing workers' rights, prompting Zambian government to ban Chinese firms from operating poultry farms.
