Yantai, in Shandong Province, is some 400 kilometres south east of Beijing. It has a population of around 7 million. Shandong is China's biggest agricultural province in terms of output and growth. Foreign investment is encouraged, and there are many opportunities here for UK companies involved in a wide variety of agriculture-related industries. Yantai is well placed to benefit from the ambitious plans for Shandong province's economic expansion, and its coastal location, low pollution and pleasant climate make it a good location in which to live and work. This video is one of a 20 part series on China's regional cities. Each video shows the size and scale of the city, its overall attractiveness as a place to live and work, and introduces potential business opportunities. UK business interest in China has been focused on a few large established cities on or near the coast. However, these markets are maturing, competition is intensifying and costs are increasing. As a consequence companies are considering alternative locations for business expansion and development. Regional cities are fast becoming the target for local and foreign investment. The rapid rate of urbanisation, expansion and economic growth of these cities offers considerable opportunities across a wide range of industrial sectors and business activities. For more information on doing business in China, see our seven part 'Breaking the Barriers ' series, which introduces some of the business challenges faced by UK companies in China.
