my worm casting seems to be brown, and its not like soccer ball shape but it has a uncooked rice shape. Is it normal?
-
May I ask. What is the purpose of drying it out? I just used mine wet. I'm a beginner but I would have thought that wet would be better because the good bacteria in there is alive and thriving in moist conditions
-
You should not allow the castings to dry out before using them, the microbes in the castings are what benefit your plants by breaking down organic matter in the soil to feed the plants. While applying them dry is also helpful to some extent, applying them moist to the plants as a topdressing and then putting mulch on top of the castings to protect them from the sun and from drying out will give you even greater benefits. You can also make a casting slurry by putting some castings in a bucket or watering can then adding UN-chlorinated water or filtered water to the bucket and stir it up and pour it onto your plants. Happy gardening!

Using a mesh kitchen strainer is a great idea! Plus I can have my toddler help out (she loves helping with our worms) since it's so much more handheld as apposed to the big sifters so many people suggest. Happy I watched this! Thanks!

I just harvested my black gold. Check it out! My bin is similar to yours.

Hi love your videos! How many worms have you lost through the holes drilled?
-
I'll be harvesting in a few days. Only took half the time, but that's because I blended my scraps. Your setup for your bin looks just like mine. Stay tuned.

Do you still do vermicomposting? Any updates? I recently harvested one of my trays(wormfactory360) and am trying to see if the castings do anything. It has been a very nice way of getting rid of kitchen scraps for me. I don't feel bad when things go bad in the fridge because they become food for my "babies". :)
