Wind energy to meet Pakistan's power shortfall
In a country where long outages are very common due to massive electricity shortage in the country, the government is trying to look at alternate sources of energy. A 160 km long wind corridor is proving to be a new energy hub with dozens of companies including those from other countries like China are planning to develop wind farms to meet Pakistan's energy requirement. Nicole Johnston reports from a wind farm in the Sindh Province. 0:46 - Wait, What? 50,000 MW?
"The Alta Wind Energy Center in California, United States is the largest onshore wind farm outside of China, with a capacity of 1,020 MW. As of April 2013, the 630 MW London Array in the UK is the largest offshore wind farm in the world, followed by the 504 MW Greater Gabbard wind farm in the UK."
OR is it 50,000 MW a year? -
Problem is, those types of wind turbines are very inefficient.
