Planted PNW native Wild Rice, Zizania Aquatica, from River Refuge in Oregon. I planted 4/22 (this video) and again 5/1 because I couldn't stand not having a better test case. So maybe 13 pounds total along about 75' of pond edge. The key is water depth of 8-15" - according to directions from RR. Anything deeper than 36" rarely successful, same on the shallower side. I've seeded other mixes in the boggy area - but not deep enough or in water long enough for Rice. I'd blocked the idea that the rice could do well in the pond, having the vision of the raging torrent after heavy rains, picturing all the seed being washed away. But taking a closer look I realized how still the water is at the edge and the nice terracing at about 8" and then again at 12-15." The rice must be in water until approx July. Can't wait to see how this turns out. As far as birds, Great Blue Herons visit once in a while, same with a pair or trio of Mallards. Once we had a bird diving for fish - staying for maybe 10 more minutes after we arrived. Not sure of the variety. http://riverrefugeseed.com/products.html
