Why Raise Silkie Chickens ?
A viewer asked why I raised silkie chickens. I've read somewhere that true silkies have black/grey/mulberry skin and beaks, while hybrids have the classic reds, pinks, yellows... Is this correct?

They ARE beautiful, and sweet. I have four hens and a rooster. My 7 yr old son enjoys them very much. He is the egg gatherer and gets excited when he goes to look for eggs. It's Easter every day at our house!

what i love most abt silkies is their calmness. i noticed the difference as soon as i got my first silkie chicks. silkies are a lot more quiet and not as fickle as the other breeds i've owned. not to mention silkies are adorable beauties <3 it has become my fave breed of all. :)

So we just got silkies. We have other chickens amercaunas Brahmas and guineas. They tend to stay away from us and I know how silkies are more domestic if we put them with the other chickens does anyone know if they would corrupt their domesticated life to staying away from us as well?

Can you tell if they are a boy or a girl during their baby stages?
I want a female so I can keep them in my house a bit longer. The last time we had ordinary chickens, they were male and my parents sent them to the farm once they started crowing. Now I really want a female so we can keep it there for a long (or longer) time.
