The weirdest sites on earth seen from space: Sea weed farms, feeding fish and faces in the badlands... can you guess what these satellite images actually show? Scattered across the globe are weird and wonderful man-made and natural structures that can be seen from above They include lines in the desert, bizarrely shaped forests and military installations, all of which can be seen in space Some might not have been revealed if not for satellites but others were designed to communicate with the heavens. From all around the world, these images show some of the weird and wonderful man-made and natural structures that can only properly be understood when they are seen from space. They include lines in the desert, bizarrely shaped forests, massive military installations and others such as the word's largest swimming pool in Chile and a system of greenhouses in Spain as large as the Isle of Wight. Also included are some of the unintended consequences of man's effect on the planet like clouds of smog billowing from Chinese cities or wonders of nature like the world's largest beaver dam in Canada. Answer: Seaweed farms in South Korea NASA has just recently published these bizarre pictures which show black lines radiating off islands near the South Korean mainland. The shallow waters around Sisan Island actually contain seaweed which is kept in place using ropes and buoys and is tended at low tide. Answer: Phytoplankton Bloom in the North Sea Phytoplankton are miniscule organisms which form the basis of the food chain. However when the tiny creatures drift into an area high with nutrients they gather in one place and feed. Despite their size, the resulting effect is visible from space. Answer: Spider Crater in Australia This strangely shaped meteor crater can be found is Western Australia. Its striking appearance, from which its name derives, is caused by the rugged terrain which surrounds it. The 11 by 13 kilometre crash site is very difficult to reached on foot and the scale of the crater has only been revealed by satellite imaging. Answer: Coronado US navy base in California This unfortunately shaped building was built in 1967 but the fact it was built in the shape of a swastika was not noticed until it was finished. The design of the naval amphibious base complex changed as it was designed and was never meant to look like the famous Nazi symbol. While the building’s shape has been visible on satellite images, the US navy has subsequently camouflaged it so that it is no longer visible from the air. This enormous pentagram etched into the ground next to a lake in an isolated corner of Kazakhstan, has had conspiracy theorists all of a flutter after it appeared on Google Earth. The five-pointed star symbol which measures some 366 metres in diameter, is situated on the southern shore of the Upper Tobol Reservoir in the north of the country. Pentagrams are commonly associated with devil-worship, but are also used in the Bahai religion and Chinese Taoism as well as neopaganists and followers of the Greek mathematician Pythagoras.
