"June 1966 in Vietnam PLEIKU - PLEI ME - Filmed during the 3d week of June, 1966. 25th Infantry Division tanks are filmed as they guard a new forward operating base, Camp Oasis. This is part of Operation Paul Revere. Tank crews scan the countryside for trouble and helicopters land to resupply and at the mouth of a river, an artillery crew sets up. The howitzer will be used to help prepare a new landing zone. Operation Paul Revere is a search & destroy operation and it began on May 10, 1966. When the artillery work ends, 25th Infantry troops begin to sweep the area. There is a village a short distance from the camp and civic action teams perform medical care for the villagers. Many of the children are malnourished. At another village, soldiers distribute tools, which include saws. Clothing, which had been collected in Hawaii, is also distributed. "The women clamor happily over the clothing bonanza." On June 21, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Forces Heroes Day is celebrated at Pleiku HQ. Major General Stanley R. Larsen the Commanding General, Field Force, Vietnam observes. A Vietnamese General gives medals to some US Army soldiers for bravery during Operation Paul Revere. TUY HOA - On June 2, 1966 soldiers clean a 155mm howitzer. It had been used overnight in support of the 101st Airborne. They are ready when a radio call arrives requesting artillery support. VUNG TAU - An Army air traffic control company sets up a portable ground approach tower TPN-18 at the Vung Tau Air Field. A technical representative from the manufacturer assists. It has a TPN-8 radar antenna and an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Antenna. It works by transmitting coded radar signals to all aircraft. Friendly aircraft have transponders which decode this signal and broadcast an appropriate ID response. BIEN HOA - An ARC-122 radio has been installed in an UH-1B helicopter, which allows a division commander to communication with his troops during operations. It was developed to overcome limitations in communications due to terrain and has been in use for 3 years. Another radio is being installed in a command & control helicopter at Bien Hoa Air Station. The ASC-6 radio unit has 3 types of radios, for AM & FM operation. It will be used by field commanders during operations to call in air and artillery strikes, & control troop and helicopter movements. TAN SON NHUT - At Camp Gaylor there was a celebration of the 106th Anniversary of the US Army Signal Corps. Commander Lt Colonel Charles R. Meyer presents distinguished service awards. (69th Signal Battalion) TUY HOA - May 25,1966 Army civic action personnel met at an orphanage to distribute aid donated by the exchange club in San Pablo, California. An US serviceman also donated 200 washcloths for the children. The Catholic Church operates the orphanage. The civic action also distributed presents to children at a Buddhist orphanage. SAIGON - June 19, 1966 Vietnamese Armed Fores Day celebrations are held at Tan Son Nhut air base. Prime Minister Nyen and Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge attend. Speeches, medals, wreath-laying, parade, ARVN airborne troops, plane fly-over. SATTAHIP-THAILAND - An ammo and cargo pier is being built as of June 21, 1966 is almost complete. It is part of a petroleum tank farm that is under construction. Tankers will use the pier, which connects to the tanks via a pipeline. A pipeline crew connects pipe and a gate valve installed. SANTO-DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - A floating bridge built by Army Engineers will be maintained by Dominican Forces in the future. Ft. Benning, Georgia instructors are teaching Dominicans in maintenance techniques & the students practice with floating sections of pontoon bridge. VALLEY FORGE, PENNSYLVANIA - On May 30, 1966 General Harold K. Johnson flew to Valley Forge to address a Memorial Day assembly. Helicopter lands. He speaks about patriotism and the armed forces, and Vietnam."
