Indian farmers facing huge crises due to unseasonal rainfall which cause damaged to the crops. Unseasonal rain and hailstorms have hit standing crops across North and West India. Officials have estimated major damage to the rabi harvest. Maharashtra's onion crop is also badly hit even as the Met department has warned of more rainfall. A majority of the damage has occurred in the Western Part of Maharashtra where crops worth Rs 1000 crore has been damaged. Rains have also hit 40,000 hectares of crop, 17,000 in Yavatmal district alone. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to make a statement in the state Assembly on Monday. "This is unfortunate. The state government will assist the affected farmers in anyway we can. The unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms just show how diverse the effect of global warming has been," Fadnavis said. Several parts of Maharashtra, including Marathwada, Khandesh and Vidharbha received heavy rainfall in the past few days, destroying winter crops. In Rajasthan, too, unseasonal rains have led to crop damage. Crops of wheat, jowar and cumin have been destroyed in Ajmer. There are also reports that one farmer in the state died due to a heart attack after his crop was completely destroyed. State minister Prabhulal Saini visited the areas in Sanganer which saw extensive damage. In Jammu and Kashmir, the upper reaches including Gulmarg have received fresh snowfall, while there have been rains in the plains.
