KPK Invasive plant species
I believe we all know how complex it is to introduce any invasive species to a “foreign” habitat. Any non-native species of flora or fauna from another region of the world that does not belong in the new environment can cause adverse affects even hundreds of years later. Such a species can lead to the extinction of endemic plants and animals, destroy biodiversity, and permanently alter the habitat.
The relocation of any flora and fauna across geographical boundaries can occur naturally by various means. However, when people deliberately and purposefully introduce a non-native species into a new habitat, thorough research should be conducted in advance to study the consequences that this new plant or animal will have on the eco-system. Therefore, please before introducing any new species, consult with specialists from that region, such as ecologists, environmentalists, and other authorities.
Now I would like to relate one of my experiences when I was driving from Canada to California. When crossing the border, I was interrogated by the border police who asked me if I had any animal products, plants or seeds with me in my possession. I said yes, that I had bought halal meat from Canada. Even though it was seal packed, they checked it and removed it from my ice chest. They told me that if I wanted to consume the meat, I could cook it and eat it there, but I was not allowed to cross the border with any plant, seed, or animal--not even meat. I have travelled all over the USA to the majority of states, and at the borders of many states there are checkpoints where they prohibit the crossing of certain plants, animals, and products from one state to another.
I was so impressed by such policies and any micro to macro concern to protect the native species. These policies were instituted as a result of past history and the disastrous effects of the introduction of invasive species. I would say if such developed countries are concerned about even a minimal degree of invasion of particular species, than how come the PTI regime is not paying attention to such huge critical biological issues?
