Copyright Vince Bucello 2012. Toorak Winery was founded by the Bruno family in 1965. It started out as a small production facility processing approximately 30 Tonnes of grapes. With gradual expansions and hard work, today it processes 5000 tonnes of grapes annually, supplying Australian and International Markets. Frank Bruno Senior originated from the Sicilian town of Palermo in Italy and, in the early 1950's, he and his young family immigrated to Australia. He worked on a property in Leeton and eventually purchased the 50 acre farm from the original owners. On the farm were mixed plantings of peaches, apricots, oranges and some grapes. Frank Senior planted more grapes on his now family farm. Since wine was always part of the Bruno family culture, the making of wine was a natural progression for the family and, in particular, Frank's two sons Vince and Frank Jnr. The focus on grape production led them to making the first commercial vintage in 1965, and the launch of Toorak Winery.
