Now tell me, what fish/seafood do you buy most often? If you answered TILAPIA for any or both of these questions then you may be really disappointed after you watch this video. Tilapia = NOT A HEALTHY FISH AT ALL! Why exactly? Well... Listen to the video and also check out these gross and sad facts: - Farm-raised Tilapia may cause more inflammation - Tilapia has at least 10 times the amount of cancer causing organic pollutants compared to the wild variety -- This can most likely be attributed to the feeds that are used on farm raised fish. - Farm-bred Tilapia has lower levels of healthy nutrients - This pig of the fish world has high concentrations of antibiotics and pesticides - Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio is 11:3 - TERRIBLE for health - Tilapia will eat pretty much anything its fed, including, well what I said in the video: shit - Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory, and inflammation is known to cause damage to blood vessels, the heart, lung and joint tissues, skin, and the digestive tract. Holy moly!!!!!! I just read that 475 million pounds of Tilapia was eaten last year!!! That's nuts! And it's all because people generalize all fish as healthy so they load up on the cheaper varieties in order to consider themselves doing something GOOD for their bodies. I certainly hope people don't think fried fish is also healthy because it's "fish"! I may mention that wild Tilapia is almost a different BREED from farmed Tilapia! You see, it really is ALL ABOUT what the fish eats - because the saying "you are what you eat" is so very true! The same goes for meats and poultry as well!!!! Grass-fed/finished is best, but that's a whole other video entirely! While this is a debate that could go on and on FOREVER, here are healthy alternatives to Tilapia that you definitely shouldn't fear: - Wild Salmon - Sardines - Mackerel - Sable Fish/ Black Cod - Trout Citations: http://www.musculardevelopment.com/news/breaking-news/1723-tilapia-is-unhealthy-worse-than-bacon.html#.UiplVry1k7A http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09637480903140503 Tilapia has higher levels of long-chain omega-6 fatty acids than 80-percent-lean hamburger, doughnuts and even pork bacon, says an article in the July, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. http://health.usnews.com/health-news/family-health/articles/2008/07/11/popular-tilapia-might-not-help-heart http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/02/science/earth/02tilapia.html?pagewanted=all
