Almost 18,000 people living within a five-kilometre radius of Indonesia's Mount Sinabung had to flee their homes as clouds of ashes, gas and gravel were shot 2,000 metres into the sky. About 26 thousand hectares of farmland have been destroyed since the volcano started erupting in early September. Farmers are risking their lives to save whatever they can of their plantations.
