How can anyone dislike this?! Youd have to be evil and heartless.

I saw this elephant when I was a kid at the zoo in Monroe, I always felt SO sad for it because it had a lame leg decades ago. I can't BELIEVE this is that SAME elephant, what a truly happy ending for her, so happy to see this. And Solomon, I don't know you personally but I love you.

Ah, Solomon. God is smiling down on you for your loving care of Shirley.

I am so glad Shirley and Jenny have each other now. Elephants are herd animals, and need others. Thank you, Solomon, for you many years of caring for Shirley and I am sorry how hard it was to say goodbye to her.

I lost my father this year. It's Christmas time and I am in a slump. All I think about is how to show my family how much I love them. I cry for my father. In this family, we give gifts, rushing around, making the tree look perfect and the whole 9 yards. It's a tradition. This year I am empty and keep blaming myself for not being in the spirit of things like those around me. Then I see this video. It startled me awake. Her pain, her isolation. I am amazed at the way elephants treat each other with such tenderness and love. I am horrified (again) at our lack of understanding of something so important. Animals are so aware of what really matters. More than people are at times. I have fallen into that trap this year. Trying to please everyone and not disappoint is killing me. Even the christmas music I am playing seems suddenly ridiculous. What matters most to me is being of use to animals that ask for nothing but need help. I am taking back that part of me, the part I was so aware of when I was younger. It grounds me. I am doing the right thing, my right thing by helping and being near animals who need a hand up.
Thank you Shirley, Solomon and the Elephant Sanctuary for bonking me in the head with this video.
