The Truth About the Nevada Rancher's Standoff
Nevada Rancher Cliven Bundy - of Bundy Ranch - is locked in a standoff with the federal Bureau of Land Management over illegal cattle grazing, endangered tortoises and property rights. It gets even better... The fight involves a 600,000-acre area under BLM control called Gold Butte, near the Utah border. The is the habitat of the protected desert tortoise, and the land has been off-limits for cattle since 1998. Five years before that, when grazing was legal, Bundy stopped paying federal fees for the right. Bundy stopped paying grazing fees in 1993. He said he didn't have to because his Mormon ancestors worked the land since the 1880s, giving him rights to the land. "We own this land," he said, not the feds. He said he is willing to pay grazing fees but only to Clark County, not BLM. "Years ago, I used to have 52 neighboring ranchers," he said. "I'm the last man standing. How come? Because BLM regulated these people off the land and out of business." Nevada, where various federal agencies manage or control more than 80 percent of the land, is among several Western states where ranchers have challenged federal land ownership. There is no pride in raising cattle for a living, just as being a slave-trader is no longer acceptable. The cattle industry is contributing to more carbon emissions and pollution than cars, planes, and other modes of transportation combined. Eating meat is unhealthy and is torturing sentient beings. The land is protected because it should be.

The truth about the desert tortoise:
https://journals.uair.arizona.edu/index.php/rangelands/article/viewFile/10776/10049
Short form: the desert tortoise feeds primarily on dung, NOT on plants. The more cattle, the better the tortoises do. Tortoises are in decline because without large grazing animals to provide a steady supply of dung, they starve. So the more cattle are removed, the more the tortoise declines.
There are presently about 80 million cattle in the U.S. -- vs. about 120 million bison as of 150 years ago, and head for head bison eat about twice as much as cattle. So any claims that the west is currently "overgrazed" are BS. Further, grasslands evolved to be grazed; without grazing, the native grasses die off and the land goes to weeds or desert. Grazing helps it recover. I have personally seen this at work. See also Alan Savory's video, here:

BTW, "butte" is pronounced like "beaut". -
Moral of the story: Never trust any organization with the initials BLM
-
Butte is not pronounced like but. It is pronounced like bewt, or the first five letters in the word beautiful. The upshot of the brouhaha is just more government overreach.

Public grazing is welfare. Ranchers need to Pay market rates and stop mooching off Uncle Sam tit.

Thank you for giving the whole backstory. I did not previously understand the reasons behind the conflict.
-
I get your point, but, Range fed cattle in the desert?? That is not very good beef anyway pretty horrible if ya ask me??

He doesn't pay for grazing rights. Believes he owns it. I guess native Americans could take it from him? Idiots.

Hi Stefan, outstanding presentation of the problem and excellent reflections on the potential consequences of such government actions in this BLM/Bundy Ranch stand-off. I have witnessed and my family/fellow farmers have witnessed similar rulings but on a much smaller scale. Thank you for the research and taking the time to so eloquently describe this situation. Please, continue educating our people on what is/has been going on under our nose, Ciao, L

I want to know what's going on with all these ranchers standoff but not bad enough to watch a 30-minute video.
you can actually look at your videos popularity on your own page and see where the most popular segment of the video is and where most people cut it off.
I'm sure if you look at the demographic you will notice that this video gets shut off within the first 5 minutes.
3 minutes max dude narrow it down -
People should worry about the Farmers.Originaly the feed the Nation....but now where you can buy cheap Food somewhere else in the world no one cares for them...
In Germany we have a Problem witth the Diary Farmers.....we had a big Meeting to help them a few days ago in Germany and its a total Joke. They said the Diary Farmers would need to pay less Taxes....
Its such a Joke...cause 80% of them earn so few Money, that they get extra Wellfare and dont have to pay Taxes anyway.
So it helps them not 1 bit
They get less Money for 1 Gallon of Milk then you pay for Tab Water...they barely can survive
Since im a little Kid i basicaly only drank Milk.Well im 6,5" Tall, and never had a broken bone in my whole Life even there where plenty of possibilities to brake them.It makes you strong and you get good Bones and good Teeth.Milk should be valued higher than Water ! -

They want the land. Probably a long term grab, or yes, quite possibly another group of power trippers. But even if this is so, that's just one unit of the FBI, and these fuckers are mentally like soldier jocks, without any intelligence.

This story is so messed up, fucking feds fighting for people, all whom which have guns, are complaining about other guys that they are paid to protect, happen to be in their rights, and also legally have guns. I am glad they stood their ground and died with the right to bear arms, among other rights that the government is trying to trick us to give up.
