The Longest Underwater Tunnel | China's Future MEGAPROJECTS: Part 5
China is building the world’s longest underwater tunnel beneath the Bohai Sea--at 76 miles long it will pass through two deadly earthquake fault zones, will be longer than the current first and second-ranked underwater tunnels combined and will cost $42 billion. S. Korea would probably be hesitant over such a tunnel. The tunnel truly demonstrates and end to the West. While people in the UK fight over a third runway, in China such crazy projects backed by necessity are being pursued. Baffling what kind of world this has truly evolved to. Time reveals all

And this is how you grow your economy.

共产党的目标是让人民生活全面小康,这是一个小目标。

I remember when I was in Taiwan in late 2004/ early 2005 I remember seeing a number of newspaper articles showing an ambitious plan by People's Republic of China (P.R.C.) officials to build one or more underwater tunnels between the P.R.C. and Taiwan. Any evidence of these plans still being alive.

in the future we will have a tunnel from london to new york. And humans will not build it all be done with robots . plus it will only take about 45 minutes to get from one side to the other. It will all be in a vacuum tunnel train travelling about 4000 mph

The more I listen to these crap the more I think you people at TDC are the only smarty around.

You should Google ; (NTBM) Nuclear Tunnel Boring Machines that melts solid rock and leaves behind glass-like walls. Designed and build by Los Alamos National Lab. They called them Subterrenes

despite the technical difficult and money, i do not think the tunnel between russia and US will worth it.
Both sides are freaking cold and no one living there, no economy, only freight shipment and far east for russia and Alaska only for US
Either northwest china to east china or east china to south korean, there are large population and large economy. -
I am always stunt to see everywhere mega project, but usa the richest society ever loosing so much ground.Even just a tgv train...WTF.there is other way to lead the world other than conflicts.Being peacefull and brotherly would make it simply and the rest of the worlds people would naturaly follow.

Maybe a dumb question but, what are the benefits of creating an underwater tunnel as opposed to a bridge? Wouldn't a bridge be must cheaper, faster to construct and design and yield the same results?

In the past to get rich in America is to build or produce something useful that people need. But in America now, to get rich is to game the system to your advantage without contributing anything of real value, with a few exceptions of course like Google or Tesla.

China has not figured out how to builds freeways that don't collapse above sea levels, and now their trying to build tunnel below sea levels. They build high speed trail that can't stay on the tracks above ground and now they what to use these same trains under water.

Fat and Gay Seattle Bertha has failed already.
Lets hope that Chinese can do better. -
TBMs go though solid rock all the time, look at Switerland

So....what's America doing again..?
-
