The first Manitowoc crane -The Moore Speedcrane 1930
The Moore Speedcrane, built 1930 This is how Manitowoc got started in the crane business. Old Manitowoc hands will recognize many of the features of this machine on the 3900 etc. 80 years old, but feels like a new machine. Owner got it in rough shape, but it had only been used as a liftcrane, never on duty cycle, so the machinery was in very good condition. Cummins engine replaced the original Hercules gasser in 1949. It only needed a little cleanup, no internal work. Work was done by a small group of guys who meet weekly. Bucket is undersize for the machine, but shows how smoothly it operates. Nice old iron. Watching that rig move dirt is like watching grass grow. Great third world machine now.
