THE BOERBOEL A MASTIFF DOG BRED TO DO BATTLE WITH AFRICAN LIONS
The Boerboel, also known as the South African Mastiff, is a large, Molosser-type breed from South Africa bred for the purpose of guarding the homestead. These dogs were bred as working farm dogs. BBATV caught up with Fuller and Gallant Boerboels in Mariposa, California. This is an amazing breed of mastiff powerful, athletic, and intelligent.

My Bullmastiff weight about 169lb most of his life. Once he hit 172lbs. Why are their tails docked?

i think what irratates me is that firstly its Boer bull not boeeeer bull ffs, secondlywhy the hellis a 2 american woman commenting on our South African dogs? so let me break tis down for you quickly, 1. Boerbulls are a mix breed between Mastiff, rhodesian ridge back and nguni, 2. they were bred by the settlers because what was needed was a large breed working dog for home defence i.e. gaurd and personal protection i.e. dangerous game e.g. lion, leopard etc. 3. they are family friendly but do not let children irratate them eg. let your toddlr hit the dog thy will react badly, they will protect family and home with their lives i have personal experience of this, they can do long distances they are incredibly powerfull, they are obediant and will do anything to please their owners and have their owners love an affection, they are jealouse and attention mongers they are also smarter than your average dog but no genius, they are more than happy in a average to large yard but most happy on farms or in the bush they do need excercise, they are incredibly tough and resiliant animals need very little grooming, male boerbulls can have a bit of a temprement issue but females are always good tempered, 4. the specimans shown in the video are average to good if you really want to see a good example of boerbulls look up "plaaswag boerbulls" on the net one of our best breeders in the country with KUSA champion breeding paires, lastly i reside in Phalaborwa South Africa we live in the bush veld and we are litterally a part of the Kruger National Park lions etc roam into town more than often and also i live in a crime ridden country to this day we havenot had 1 single break in or robbery or any problem with the wild life, hands down best dog around

Battle with lions? No dog, one on one, could handle a lion.
-
There isn't a dog on the planet that can take a lion, tiger, cougar etc. you guys are nuts
-
A lion would eat that dog and not break a sweat. My 51 pound Redboy/Jocko bloodline Pitbull will make him cur out in 15 minutes and by 30 minutes somebody would be picking that Boerboel up!!!!..... Pit will get in his ear and ride his head then grab his nose until he's turning and get deep in his chest & throat....30 minutes your picking him up.

I love that red col with the black muzzle!

Beautiful dogs :)

The concept of a dog doing battle with a lion is kind of funny. The fact is no dog breeder is stupid enough to think a dog could go mano y mano with a lion or even a cougar.

my mix lab gsp mated one of these big girls but she has a genetic heart valve problem.
