http://www.maiko.ne.jp/english/shopping/yamashita-gyokuro.htm Yamashita tea of exceptionally high quality is grown at the tea gardens surrounding the residence of MaikoTea's renowned tea expert Yamashita Toshikazu. He watches daily over the production of this most exquisite premium tea and makes sure that every step of the cultivation is done with great care and skillfulness. The Yamashita Gyokuro has a condensed sweet taste with a characteristic ambrosial fragrance and extremely gentle flavour. The production of the highest grade 'expert' tea is limited to a few kilograms a year since it's processing is extremely tedious and time consuming. Being of such high quality the thick tea leaves maintain their pleasant flavor even up to 4-5 servings. Maiko no Cha headquarters is located in Kyotanbe city which is known throughout Japan as the capital of high-class Gyokuro. Gyokuro is produced from fields (ooishita-en) that are shaded from mid-April. After the buds are picked, they are steamed, dried and kneaded. Gyokuro is the highest grade of Japanese tea available and is characterized by its fine green color, rich aroma and mellow sweet flavor. When it comes to superior grade Gyokuro, many people are surprised by it's uniquely intense taste. This is not an everyday beverage that can be drunk in a rush, but needs to be sipped very slowly in order for its flavor to spread throughout the mouth baptizing each taste bud with it's deep and enchanting aroma.
