The proposed privatization of 5 state owned sugar factories may take longer than anticipated leaving the local sugar industry exposed to competition when the COMESA safeguard measures expire in February next year. The Kenya Sugar Board has admitted that the process is being held up by delays in restructuring a 50b shillings debt owed by the industry due to a heavy legislative agenda in parliament.
