Thought I would try out my Feiyu Tech G4s Gimble... Leaving Kandy I headed North to Dambulla to see The Golden Temple and the Cave Temple. I only stayed there for one night and then headed back to Kandy and then East to Ella. The Journey from Dambulla to Ella, via Tuk Tuk, Bus, and Train took me a day as I had to stay in Ella (Ridge View, run by Samar) for the night as I just couldn’t do the whole journey, which was to get to Arugam Bay, in one go! I left Dambulla at 6am getting a Tuk Tuk to the Bus Station, however after a journey all of half a km he stopped abruptly and flagged down a great little private bus with Air Conditioning that was able to drop me right outside of Kandy Train Station, the two hour ride was bliss. I had a seat straight away and it was lovely enjoying the coolness. I was there well in time to catch the 11:15am Train to Ella. The thought of a six and a half hour train ride like the one I had getting from Negombo to Kandy the previous week was putting me off a little. But, with my second class ticket in hand I got onto the correct carriage this time and was elated to find the train was far from packed. Probably the reason being was that Kandy is where the train originates from, although it didn’t get busy the whole journey, quiet the opposite as more passengers got off than on. The train ride meandered around the hills and valleys passing through tunnels and forests as well as acres upon acres of Tea Plantations, eventually arriving in Ella Station at around 5:30pm. I had not booked any accommodation in Ella, but found Samar, who walked me to his little pick up truck put my packs in the back and drove me the 10 minutes to his lovely room next to his house high up in the hills overlooking Ella Rock. I had a great hot shower and went to bed as I was having to get up at 6am to get my Bus to Monaragala. To be continued.... The Journey: Tuk Tuk – 5 Minutes – .5km - 50rs = £0.24 Bus - 3.5 Hours – 85km – 180rs = £0.87 Train – 6.5 Hours – 135km – 280rs = £1.35 Total 10 Hours 5 Minutes – 220.5km (136 Miles) – 510rs = £2.46!!! Traveling in Sri Lanka is much slower than in the UK, but so much cheaper! Date: 22nd January, 2016 Location: Ella, Sri Lanka.
