The effects of the drought could lead to milk shortages in parts of the country. High input costs for farmers, the price of fodder, and a shortage of water all contribute to the looming crisis. Farmers say they are now paying more for lucerne than what they are getting for their milk. Chairperson of the Milk Producers Organisation says the price consumers pay is not linked to price farmers get for their milk.
