Small town in US supplying China with milk over high dairy demands
A small town in the United States is trying to fill the demand for the popular dairy product, milk, from the world's most populous nation, China. In the US town of Fallon, Nevada agriculture drives the local economy. Two months ago, a new plant in Fallon began producing dehydrated milk powder almost entirely for the Chinese market. Milk from this plant is now on the shelves of stores in China for the very first time. The plant costs eighty-five million US dollars and can produce hundreds of thousands of kilograms of whole milk powder on a daily basis. Senior Vice President of Dairy Farmers of America, Jay Wald-vogel helped bring about the deal between the Chinese and US dairy companies.
