Small Business Success Story: Cherry Grove Organic Farm
http://careerfuel.net/?p=5207 How are farming and white-collar work a lot alike, you may wonder? In either case, you can rent the space to make it happen. Matt Conver is part of a growing trend of young people who are leasing farmland from property owners, and he is reaping plenty of what he sows! In Matt's case, a combination of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) revenue and farmers market sales pay the bills to support his family, allowing his wife (a trained social worker) to stay home with the kids. If you live in an area with existing farmland or land that is suitable for farming, you will most likely need money to get started. BeginningFarmers.org is a great resource for loans and grants specific to farming. When you have things up and running, you may want to offer CSA shares to cover some of your initial expenses and this site (http://bit.ly/PIeSfk) will help get the word out to potential customers (also a great site to find a CSA in your area and support your local farmers!). And finally, a salute to America's farmers- yes indeed, "they're farmin' and they grow it" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48H7zOQrX3U)! This is another segment in CareerFuel's "How America Works" series, a collection of job search and small business success stories. Do you have a small business success story? As far as the people who are on the EBT program and the rest of the "economically forgotten American's" for anyone who meet's the criteria for such program's I feel for them. But to be so obviously misinformed as to claim them a "Burden" can only mean one thing . You have sadly drank the cool aid of the typical major Network New's propaganda machine in America. In case you didn't know ALL and every social program in America has been cut substantially while Military spending leap's off the roof , So it's just fine when Wall Street loots & plunders the American tax payer into poverty and then get's bailed out ? First deregulate the system to set the stage to rip off hundreds of billions without a care in the world of any legal action being taken while everyday American's can't get down the street without a seat belt on ....WE must try and open the eye's of those who's eye's have been closed far to long...

Good job buddy...I wish you all the success....

Can anyone tell Me why the Government put's so many obstacles in your way from becoming an Organic farm . Why won't they allow us small farms to do what Monsanto did when they submitted the GMO safety findings to the FDA for a speedy approval in fact the FDA relied solely on the Monsanto 90 day report when they approved it . NO long term study at all even though the FDA was later warned that there was obviously another report one that shed's a rather ugly light on Monsanto for knowingly misrepresenting the safety of there GMO food's while millions of innocent family's get deathly ill...

Additionally, the .01% of resisting strains of bacteria are becoming new species of bugs that keep going back to feed on crops, therefore more/stronger fertilizers are going to keep being produced and are going to keep turning crop fields into deserts. Crop fields are supposed to have nutrient rich soil aren't they? But they aren't, they are mainly rock hard dirt fields. Do some research or just think about it sometime.

With organic farming, you are actually giving back to the earth in the process. With conventional farming, fertilizers like herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and larvicides are all soaked into the earth year after year, and the fertilizers are just getting more and more potent and worse for the earth due to the resisting strains of bacteria that fight the .01 percent of what fertilizers can't resist! Conventional farming is destroying the earth every day and there's really no way to reverse it

Living the dream. Absolutely inspiring.

I have heard that organic farms have only the yeild of about 70 percent of regular farming. meaning that it takes more room, to grow less produce. Which means that if there was ever a shift to organic farming, we would need to clear off about 30 percent more land to just grow the same amount, which would devastate our wilderness. I like wild animals far too much to take away their habitat just to eat a little healthier. Do you have a n answer for this? Or is that just how it is right now?
