The Sivananda Ashram in Uttarkashi lies at 1165 m on the banks of the Bhagirati, one of the four tributaries of the Ganges. The region is known for its traditional ashrams and carries the spiritual vibrations of many generations of yoga practitioners. The ashram was founded as a hermitage by one of Swami Sivananda's disciples and given to Swami Vishnudevananda in 1992. Once a year, the Advanced Teachers' Training Course is taught here by swamis and senior instructors from the Sivananda Yoga Centres in Europe together with local swamis.
