Sill plate Replacement Front Building pt1
DIY rotted sill plate & joist face board replacement. when you can't afford to call in a contractor, just some tools & get to work. Pt 1 looks at supporting the structure, jacking the building off the foundation, removal & replacement of rotted sill & face boards. what this is not a one man DIY project ? Damn someone should have told me its too late now, lol One thing to add if your building is newer construction you will have joist hangers fastening the floor joists to the face board, the joist hangers will have to be removed before you put end blocks between the joists, the blocks will now secure the joists from tilting over & will allow safe removal of the face board.

Too much talking, I stopped after 2 minutes

You lost me after 2min because I didn't want to take a tour of your basement and all the junk you have in there. I wanted to see how you replaced a rotten sill and skirt.
-
Ohh, I'll contact the contractor who did the work!! Thank you!!!!

Question. Do you have to put foam stuff under the sill board? I just had my whole house replaced and the didn't put anything under that board, they placed it right on my foundation wall. They did use pressure treated wood. I wanted to know if I should have them re due it because its supposed to have it. I'm in Va thank you for making video like this!! Helps !!!

Yeah those fans suck. Not at all built to last.

your funny lol great video

you may want to use some strong tie straps to tie wall to face joist and sill plate, since you don't have access to anchor the wall bottom plate to the new support properly, toeing the screw are good but the straps will give you additional strength

the powder you mentioned is from powder post beetle. I suggest you have the home sprayed for termites and powder post beetle or this problem will continue. It would take a number of years to manifest itself again and you'll be back to square 1.

I would liked to have seen the process, as I'm in the process of doing the same without a clue

The preferred method would be to use 5" galvanized carriage bolts with a large flat washer that the square of the bolt will fit into, pre drill over sized holes into the sill plate before you install it so you can drop the bolts in from the top on the inside after it has been installed but before you lower the building onto the new sill, then once complete then fill the holes with bolts with cement upto the sill gasket.

if over a basement or crawl space if you already have the sills installed you can use 6" L bracket cut to 1" on one side, on the inside, place the bracket 1" end on top of the sill plate 6" end going down into a hole in the blocks, drill a hole 3/4 " from the top so you can put a 3" deck screw into the side of the sill plate to hold the bracket then fill the hole upto the sill gasket with cement, I put 3 on each side .
