Sarokaar - Impact of the amended Land Acquisition Act on farmers
The NDA government recently introduced an ordinance for amending the Land Acquisition Act which was enacted during the UPA rule. This decision of the government has raised questions and concerns from various factions including the opposition and social activists which they consider has eased the provisions of land acquisition. The government terms the changes in the act pro-farmer where their interests have been well considered and as a necessary step in achieving economic progress while the opposition calls it as anti-farmer while supporting the business interests of corporates. Watch this edition of Sarokaar with eminent panellists discussing the impact and consequences of the new ordinance amending the Land Acquisition Act. The real threat of India today is not China or Pakistan, but the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi, the heir apparent of Gandhi dynasty who desperately blockading Mr. Narendra Modi's every effort to save the country from its decades of misrule. The Prime Minister is trying to revive the economy, the latter is determinedly blockading his efforts, especially the "Make in India" ambitious program to revive the manufacturing sector in India where Indian and foreign manufacturers can make and market from India.
Rahul Gandhi should understand, today India is a young nation with 605 million people below the age group of 25. This is India's secret weapon, not nuclear. This means that for the next 40 years we would have a youthful, dynamic, and productive workforce when the rest of the world, including the China, is aging population. India is blessed with a young population. We have to educate them, create more job opportunities and take advantage of the opportunities that the 21st century world offers. If we fail, our demographic dividend risks become a demographic disaster.
I think Mr. Gandhi will be better off if he cooperates with the PM and push through the Land Acquisition Bill the upper house, Rajya Sabha, at any cost. If he does so, the government can move forwards with its program in building factories and unleash a series of projects aimed at reshaping the crumbling infrastructure in cities, setting up industrial corridors, building smart cities, expressways and super-fast bullet trains, of all of which are land-intensive projects. It is a great mission and hope this lead to the development of our country as well as our manufacturing sector in general. Be a patriotic Indian, not an Italian. Jai Hind. -

At the 50th min (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z46WCB3b4Cw) - we hear Sambit say - that the compensation will be 4 times MARKET VAULE (in Rural) and 2 times MARKET VALUE (in Urban) - My quest is - how do you determine this MARKET VALUE of the land?
Did Sambit mean Govt value (instead of MARKET value)? -
Awesome debate....very healthy...

1) When zamindari system was abolished about 50 years back compensation stood 8-13 times the annual yield from property for people who acquired their properties via their loyalty for the British regime and now its 2-4 times the market value for the farmers who have been the socio-economic spine of our post independence modern society which is betrayal in name of a jobless growth.
2) It is a bye-pass for procedure created by law and majority should be humble and respect rule of law.
3) Government should stress on institutional and administrative procedural reforms to avoid red tape to reduce file clearance time to a pre bound time period rather than avoiding SIA and exposing our ecology and society to chronic capitalism.
4) In consonance with public use public good should also be included in relevant places in constitution as our DPSPs outline the role of governance and both terms be clearly defined and regularly evolved as public use and public good assume different meanings with time.
5) One should chew as much it can be digested and should chew it for long enough so that all stakeholders can digest the amendment. -
One of the best discussions on the subject. The govt. will regret this repression against farmers
