this place is awesome!I go to see this every year.but remember these fish are not indigenous to lake Ontario. but I think a lot of towns in that area would disappear without the fish.
-
So they help eggs but also farming salmon. Million dollar business here

Back in the mid 70's I lived on a ranch on the Pahsimeroi River (which dumps into the Salmon River between Challis and Salmon in Idaho). They let the salmon run one of those years, rather than trapping them. It was really neat to sit on our corral poles and watch the salmon spawn.

True Armend T, luckily such hatcheries may produce much more salmon than would be possible in natural setting. Wish it is not just business !
-
Sscharad64, I agree higher conservation. But in the very artificial process like this the very balance and need survival of other creatures is thwarted. Especially if any creature's staple diet is only salmon eggs in a critical time of their life time ! Of course I praise the efforts to save salmon in anyway ! why not we also work in parallel all the hurdles created by Humans be minimized ?
-
Once salmon have laid their eggs, they die anyway. Some need to understand this process is ensuring a higher fry survival rate than what could be accomplished in nature
-
Because it can be also seen.
-
It took me a while to realize that this all is for good purpose.

sold!

I was wondering ,the fish is cut open and eggs removed , then what happened to the fish ?
-
@Hawk193 its not just the dams that hurt the salmon runs, now days we have other challenges like migrating sealions and gill nets. another thing is now days all sport fishermen are only aloud to keep hatchery fish for the most part, so we kinda make what we keep to try not to effect the natural numbers. it might not be perfect but its way better than nothing.
-
This is incredible. Fish conservation on an industrial scale. Roughly how many fish does this produce?
-
It seems so unnatural. I realize that this is to raise more of the fish to adulthood, but how much better might it be if we didn't have the dams to stop the fish from spawning naturally?
-
where is this location at?
-
@Copperswilly would you suggest fishing the deeper holes like black hole
-
Wow incredible. That hatchery must produce millions of fish.
-
very nice video... yavrualabalik in Turkey

@Copperswilly Where in the salmon river is good to float fish. And is October 9-12 a good time to fish for steelhead and salmon?
