The russian kid has legitimate concerns and China is not known for it's environmental friendly practices either, but then again, the land should be farmed if it's available. Then there's the third side to the coin, that specific land was not always russian land - and russians act like it was.

Zabaykalsky Krai is right next to northern China, where Russians regularly shop in Manzhouli city which have bilingual speakers and Russian signs just to accommodate them.

Well given that the EU (one of Russia's biggest (if not biggest) trading partners) imposed sanctions on Russia due to the annexation of Crimea and the war in Ukraine, Russia doesn't have much of a choice.
Do business with the Chinese or continue down this economic downturn (alternately, just return Crimea and stop support for the pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine). -
