Render farm using HP C7000 Blade
After searching the net for advice on a good cheap render farm option, found this HP C7000 blade on ebay for $1990 with 5 blades and a sas HDD array. Looked for more BL465c and picked up 6 more for $250 each and bought another couple as spare and made another unit out of them. Total price of around $3500 AUD and I have the equivlant of 12 mid point i7's with 8Gb ram in each and 72Gb HDD's. Which works out much cheaper and much more convenient that some of the half baked home made jobs i've seen on You tube !!!. Considering a i7 in Australia can cost around $1000 AUD.

I just bought a HP Proliant DL580 G7 for rendering, thought I understand the basics of the setup but now I'm stuck.
Do I have to install vray in the server as well? Or will the distributed rendering recognize the server's cpu's? The server has windows server 2012 r2, but you say you have windows 7 on your blades. I thought only a windows server would be able to recongnize all the 40 cpu's and the hundrends of gigabytes of ram? -
This is extremely interesting. Thanks for posting. Can I ask how many different circuits you have that on? I see 2 UPS to is it just on two circuits?

...What do you think of Autodesk's BackBurner?

Can you get me a help telling me what I need to configure it to use as renderfarm with 3dsmax and vray? Thanks in advance

You should try openstack to auto scale up your renders, and then scale back down when not in use

I would prefer using some online rendering service instead of building my own render farm. It could be much more cost effective.

Question in regards to your power...
How have you connected it to your homes power?
I just bought 3x c7000's with about 20 blades, I have also purchased a Single Phase power module to swap out the 3 Phase. But haven't worked out the power issues. Also, how much does it cost you do run? -
What do you use a render farm for? Is it for solidworks and software like that???
