Rain water harvesting through farm ponds in Tirildihi village, Mayurbhanj district(Odisha)India

This shows how in a backward water scarcity area rainwater could be stored through farm ponds during 2006. As a mission this was taken up and more than 1089 farm ponds were dug in one year and the district was number one in the country with the missionary zeal of the then NABARD Officer Ashok Mishra. The same was taken as a model for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and thousands of farm ponds were dug in the district helping to preserve precious rain water for farmers to use in Summer months.
