Chinese forest police captured on Monday a python at a duck farm in Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, southwest China. Yao Junming, director of the duck farm, found that a python was eating duck when he was preparing to open the gate of duck farm. Then he arranged workers to trap the python in a corner with a plastic box and called the forest police. "At 08:00, I went to open the gate of duck farm and found a python was eating my duck. I had seen the publicity film of forest police on TV and knew the python was the national protected animal. So I called the forest police for help," said Yao Junming, director of the duck farm. After receiving the call, local police went to the duck farm with professional tools. It took the forest police nearly 10 minutes to capture the python and transferred it into the wildlife cage. "According to the forest police at the scene, the snake is identified as python, first-class national protected wildlife, which lives in areas of our county below an altitude of 1200 meters," said Pan Xiang, a local forest police officer. The python weighs 11.2 kilograms and is 2.5 meters long. The python is Burmese Python and it may enter into the duck farm for food due to the continuous hot and dry weather in recent days. The python had no injuries, but its mental condition was not stable. The forest police would transfer it to the Yuanjiang wildlife rescue center for further rescue service and release it to the wild when it is in healthy condition.
