Potato Farming
Movie about the various aspects of potato farming from digging to shipping the final product. Filmed on a friends farm last summer when I helped him harvest and fix equipment failures. This operation is the only commercial potato farm in South Carolina. The best potato's I've ever eaten too by the way. This years harvest starts next week. The only aspect not shown in the video is the planting of potatoes. Entire video and stills shot on a Canon A630 digital camera. I carried the camera on my belt in a custom made Vel-Tye case the whole time I worked there and shot as I had time and opportunity. Awesome camera for the money. Movie made with iMovie on my MacBook. Music tracks are from Garage Band. This is my first video project. It's weak I know, but it was fun to shoot and assemble. Hope you enjoy it. Insist on locally grown vegetables and fruit from your grocer. Support your local farmers!

Very little storage on the farm, all potatoes are processed and shipped the same day. The migrant workers are there all day regardless of what is going on, weed and rock pulling is part of the job. We are usually done digging by 9am and then the workers move on to other jobs. 150 acres a day must require a huge storage facility. It's 100+ degrees outside here, in Maine and Idaho they just pile them in a building for the winter. Not possible here. Dug, graded and shipped the same day. Fresh...

Holy crap that many people to take care of 50 acres? we dig 150 a day with 1 harvester and nobody on it

Thanks! Obrigado!! From Brasil

Around 50 acres... it varies. Probably not planting this year. Too many potatoes dumped in the midwest cheap last year killed the profits for George. Easier and more profitable crops are an option... very labor intensive to process potatoes.

How many acres of spuds a year?

I watch this video for 9 damn minutes and not once did they tell me how many ways they can cut a spud. DISLIKE

thanks for shooting this!

nice to see how the others in the potato industry do things. Cheftains would be a variety that will take the heat as a red, and Kennebec would also take the heat if you are looking for a round white.
