Plant breeding using genotypic markers, marker assisted selection
For more information, log on to- http://shomusbiology.weebly.com/ Download the study materials here- http://shomusbiology.weebly.com/bio-materials.html Plant breeding is the art and science of changing the traits of plants in order to produce desired characteristics.[1] Plant breeding can be accomplished through many different techniques ranging from simply selecting plants with desirable characteristics for propagation, to more complex molecular techniques (see cultigen and cultivar). Plant breeding has been practiced for thousands of years, since near the beginning of human civilization. It is now practiced worldwide by individuals such as gardeners and farmers, or by professional plant breeders employed by organizations such as government institutions, universities, crop-specific industry associations or research centers. International development agencies believe that breeding new crops is important for ensuring food security by developing new varieties that are higher-yielding, resistant to pests and diseases, drought-resistant or regionally adapted to different environments and growing conditions. sir
than what is diffrence btn marker and traits and gene???????? -
Thank you for the lecture. My doubt is the following: If i pyramid those 3 genes (A, B and C), when after that I self pollinate the plants I will have those loci in homozygosity, right? So, if I use only the "A" gene genetic marker that means that I if the "A" gene is present the other two are also present or do I have to use the three genetic markers?
Thank you! -
if a desired gene is n0t lying in vicinity 0f gene marker h0w we can l0cate 0ur desired gene ?

thank u sh0mu.. but is it necessary f0r a marker t0 link with s0me specific gene resp0sibl f0r s0me imp trait?
