I like that nothing is wasted, the meat is used for food, the shells for fertilizer.

Not any more. The Chinese akoya industry was devastated two consecutive years in a row several years ago and has been unable to recover. The only consistent source for akoya pearls is now Japan.

Hello Jeremy, what was shown in this video are Akoya pearl oysters yes? How long have u been learning putonghua or did u just pick it up along the way?:) Akoya pearls r very gorgeous but I love the glow on freshwaters more... lights up a woman's skin so softly and beautifully... the glowy lustre is mesmerizing!!!

@HanakoFujita That is only the case with South Sea, Tahitian and freshwater pearls. Akoya pearl oysters cannot be regrafted.

What?! I heard that You can take the pearl off the oyster and then place a small piece of object-like thing inside it so it can produce another pearl! Not kill it..

People wonder why some pearls are expensive. Labor intensive for up to four years. The pearl is one of Gods beautiful gems.
