Pakistan's First Step to Solar Energy | Najam Ahmad Shah | TEDxPIEAS
When he joined Pakistan’s Civil Service, Najam Ahmad Shah was repeatedly told that his engineering and management degrees and skill set was irrelevant to his career as a civil servant. However, in a country that believed that setting up Solar Power was expensive and not feasible, a country where people lacked the specific training, since this hadn’t been done before; this man pioneered the first Solar Power Plant from scratch, and that too a plant with above average capacity. Listen to him talk about his journey from being an engineer and a civil servant, to CEO of Quaid-e-Azam Solar, and sharing the idea of a Solar Pakistan. Mr. Najam Ahmad Shah, a Fulbright Scholar and an Eisenhower Fellow, is an Electrical Engineer and also holds a Masters in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management, as well as Masters in Public Administration(the latter from Harvard). He has worked for Siemens. Currently, Mr. Shah is the CEO Quaid e Azam Solar Power Pvt. Ltd.; the government’s initiative to help solve Pakistan’s energy crisis. He has been working tirelessly to make it a success and under his leadership, enabling the plant to start exporting 100 MW from the plant with immediate effect. As CEO of the company he believes in the importance of renewable energy, and the urgent need to work toward a better and greener future. Along with his post in QA Solar, he has recently been appointed as Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education of the Government of the Punjab. In March 2016, he received the “President’s Pride of Performance Award” for his undying efforts and passionate work. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

I commend the blind faith of Najam Sahab but sadly his speech could not be more misleading. I am not gonna go into political aspect of this issue.
Some Technical Reasons why GRID SOLAR is gonna be a failure in Pakistan:
1. Pakistan is facing 24 Hrs shortage of electricity while solar is intermittent source.
2. No matter the tariff, if you do not curb thievery you cannot pay companies generating power.
3. Companies are not allowed to generate electricity and sell directly to consumers.
We don't need gimmicks but proper policies and law enforcement. -
