Organic vs Biodynamic | Volunteer Gardener
What's the difference between organic and biodynamic farming? Both are sustainable agriculture that is kind to the Earth. Jeff Poppen, the barefoot farmer, will explain.

You did an awesome job with this video! I did not know what biodynamic farming was until you explained it in a clear and concise manner! Thank you. It is much too much work for me, but if I ever saw this food offered anywhere, I would purchase it because it would be of outstanding quality.

Lots of bare soil..

a lot of those compost additives are interesting, and I don't see them as being harmful, but the whole...flowers and such buried in animal parts for a year...how does that benefit in what specific ways? I'm not doubting it completely, just that it feels like it's partially mysticism. I'd want to do a soil test for key nutrients, and soil quality, to know if it's got anything, and if "a small ammount" is enough to do anything positive. I have no faith. I must know for sure, otherwise it's all guesswork.

Thank you!

Excellent video!! Thanks for the info.
I bought some biodynamic eggs today and didn`t know what biodynamis was. -
The main difference between organic farming and biodynamic farming is that the former does not use pesticides, while the latter relies on superstitious and magical applications of homeopathy where a lot of labor is put into producing fertilizer that has no effect at all because it is basically dissolved in gallons of water.

I love it,,,,,, Thank you for posting.

Jeff Poppin, I am glad to see your old episodes on YouTube.

Well i thought i was just an organic gardener but it seems many of the practices ive been using for the last decade or so are far more biodynamic than organic. I don't use anything that isn't found readily in nature in my garden. I live in the suburbs and my city just approved the raising of chickens in town so now i really get to go all out. I love the show, much love and respect from the Sooner State :)

I am completely on board with generating everything the farm needs from within its borders. I do not understand the manure in the horn or the flowers in the stomach stuff. Thanks for an informative video and giving me more to consider.

How would this apply to a small home gardener and not a farmer. I don't know how a person with say an acre under cultivation could produce everything needed for themselves. I guess biodynamics is for farming and not gardening. I would still like to incorporate it's practices into my garden as much as possible. This is my second or third time seeing this video. I really like what you have to say. Thanks for sharing. Janice

biodynamics is amazing. This earth has many cycles and biodynamics taps into those cycles. Ive never experienced gardening the same since. Its truly amazing. and proven not to mention.

Mr Poppen, thank you so much for explaining the difference between Organic and Bio-Dynamic. In just a few words you spelled it out by stating that "...all Bio-Dynamic farms are Organic, but not all Organic farms are necessarily Bio-Dynamic". Excellent video. I just subscribed and look forward to watching more of your material. - Dave

Can one buy the spray mixture on the farm?

He is nutty, and the whole astrology/crystals thing turns me off, but I'd still use his products. The good outweighs the bad.

I love the way you explained the differance very understandable. I hope to one day be self contained in all I need. thank you

Actually modern organic systems CAN but don't always generate everything from the farm. The real difference between modern organic and biodynamic is the mythology in biodynamic whereas organic is a scientific based method. Ironically it doesn't matter. Whether you explain compost in mythological terms or in scientific terms...it is still compost and it still works.

Biodynamic gardening is not a cult. The animal products used are all part of the cycle after butchering a steer for food...

Aftershock, try the Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California. Ask for Harald Hoven, the master gardener.
