Orchid Care: Growing Vanilla Orchids : My care and culture tips in the home and Greenhouse

I have a vanilla orchid plant outside that started on my patio and then took over that corner and attached to a guava tree. i took some of the vines and put them on ladder type stakes that i bought online and it has turned into a monster! Last year it was too dry in south Florida and i didn't water it much so i was not successful with the flowers. This year i made sure to spray with fertilizer and water a lot and i have more flowers than I know what to do with. I'm hoping I've been pollinating them well enough and i will get some vanilla pods. I hate seeing so many i can't get to but what can i do? I read somewhere that if the vine just goes straight up it will not flower. Guess what? That is wrong. I need to take more pictures of it each day to show the flowers. I think it is getting out of control.' "Attack of the killer vanilla vine!" Wish me luck.
5. Hi Brad, needed some extra information regarding the vanilla plant. I purchased mine this past January 2016 from the Tamiami International Orchid Festival here in Miami Florida. Since, I've had it planted in a pot with bark, sphag, and perlite. Most of the leaves are gone, but the vine is very green. I see points of new growths. Today, l decided to mount it to the original branch of oak, my son cut from my oak tree. I am hoping it'll do better come this spring/summer. Thanks for sharing and happy growing.

    I came across an article that said you should let your vanilla orchid 'fold over' it's stake, that is, don't keep it growing straight up in order for it to bloom. http://homeguides.sfgate.com/propagate-vanilla-orchids-65706.html. No clue is this is true or not (I haven't myself tried it, but it's worth a read and maybe you can check in with your friend who grows vanilla to see if she agrees?

15. I'm thinking to grow vanilla in my home, but winters are very cold in my country. And there are two more problems: 1. i don't know from where to get vanilla plant cutting 2. my little sister is eating all the plants in the winter :D (my mom finds "bites" on leafs :D)
16. how did you mount the moss to the wood?
    are there any specific ratios for the potting media, or is it just equal parts of everything?
    could i use mulch, sand, or pebbles instead of bark?

17. My Vanilla is rooted to a fist sized clump of lava rock, which I then placed in my home aquarium water filter. The full spectrum light of my aquarium, the steady supply of moisture provided by the tank and the nitrates produced by the filtration process ..seem to have made my little orchid quite happy. Lastly, I've used small pieces of gum to adhere the plant to the rim of the tank. Giving the impression that the Orchid is somehow attaching its-self to the aquarium.
    
    Between my Vanilla and a large non-variegated Spider Plant, my tanks Nitrogen levels are virtually non existent. At least to the extent that it would have a negative impact on tank health. They have quite the symbiotic relationship going.

20. I'm from the Philippines.  Where can I get a vine to start growing vanilla orchids at home?  Will it grow here well?
