One Million Cockroaches Escape Farm in China

A million cockroaches that were being bred for use in traditional Chinese medicine have escaped from their farm in Dafeng, a town in the eastern Jiangsu province of China. Authorities are still trying to figure out who let the cockroaches out of the plastic greenhouse where they were being kept. A cockroach infestation is something that needs to be eradicated by pest control, but what do you do about a million roaches being released? Reportedly, a million cockroaches that were being bred for use in traditional Chinese medicine have escaped from their farm in Dafeng, a town in the eastern Jiangsu province of China. Authorities are still trying to figure out who let the cockroaches out of the plastic greenhouse where they were being kept. Five investigators from the disease control authority have been sent to the surrounding area to deal with the problem posed by the release of all those roaches. The owner of the roach farm reportedly invested over 16 thousand dollars on raising the insects, to be processed and used in traditional Chinese medicine as a treatment for cancer, inflammation, and as a way to boost immunity. There were around one and a half million roaches hatched at the farm before someone broke into the greenhouse and released them. The owner said that they expected to sell the roaches for around 160 dollars profit per kilogram, but after the incident they are facing serious investment losses.
