Obama Moves To Solve Ugly Vietnam War Legacy
During the Vietnam War, American forces frequently bombed the country of Laos. That legacy is still felt today. John Iadarola, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. https://www.tytnetwork.com/join Xieng Khoung, Laos (CNN)For two years after the accident, Yei Yang refused to leave his home. "I couldn't farm, I couldn't go to see friends, as they might be afraid of me," Yang tells CNN. "I didn't want to live." Yang was just 22 and burning rubbish near his village in the province of Xieng Khoung in north-eastern Laos, when a bomb blast tore off one of his eyelids, his top lip and an ear, mutilated one of his arms, and left him with severe scarring from the waist up. "I remembered I burned the garbage, but after the explosion I was unconscious for two weeks," Yang says. "I felt extreme pain...all over my body. I still feel pain always." I notice a common trend here. Some U.S. president kills thousands or even millions of civilians, and that country doesn't even get an official apology for years. Japan, the nukes dropped on civilian cities, Vietnam and Laos, cluster munitions and napalm dropped on civilians, and now the Middle East, were civilians are killed on a daily basis.

Hey Laos, here's $90M to help clean up your entire country which we illegally destroyed. Hey Erin Andrews, here's $55M for your leaked nudes.

While this doesn't fundamentally change the picture painted by TYT, it is worth noting that the Air Force intentionally carried out more missions over Laos and Cambodia than necessary in order to enhance its position during budget negotiations: Planes would empty their entire payloads into lakes, for example. Thus, the bombing was not as deadly as you would think given the raw figures.

But the US has a reputation to maintain. The brutish giant. Stumbling into a threatening area and smashing around wildly with their enormous club, shouting Freedom and Democracy until they get bored and wander off to another target. /s
