New Aquaponic system build at Savour Soil Permaculture.
Hi all. Here's a better look at the Aquaponic system I built for Michael & his small urban farm here in SE Queensland Australia. The build went very well & was kept very simple. Michael & family are very eager to stock it with some Jade Perch & plant the beds out. I hope to make it out there to visit in future & film some update clips on the systems progress. Also had a ball presenting the aquaponics workshop for Savour Soils Permaculture & might look at holding more in the future. Savour Soil Permaculture website, http://www.savoursoilpermaculture.com.au/ Savour Soil on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/SavourSoilPermaculture Have made a post on the Bits Out the Back Blog in regards to the local/Australian stockists info I mentioned in the clip as YouTube thought it was too large to post here ;-) http://www.bitsouttheback.net/2015/11/aquaponics-workshop-system-build-for.html Radial flow filter retention time calculation. The formula I use to see how long the water is retained in the filter before moving on is: Size of filter (in litres) / flow rate (in litres per hour) = Retention time in hours. (Same can be done in gallons & gallons per hour) For our system the equation looks like this.. 50 / 2700 = 0.0185 of an hour or 1minute 7seconds To help you out here is a handy Decimal to Time Calculator http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/time/decimal-to-time-calculator.php Subscribing to us here at Bits Out the Back is as easy as clicking below, http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=bnbob01 You can also find Bits Out the Back various social media where we post mini updates on the aquaponics, chooks, worms, wicking bed gardens & other small tidbits daily. www.facebook.com/Bitsouttheback http://bitsouttheback.tumblr.com/ http://instagram.com/bits_out_the_back @bits_out_the_back https://www.pinterest.com/bitsouttheback/ https://twitter.com/RobsUrbanFarm @RobsUrbanFarm Have a great one everyone. the best success that i've had was by using the Keiths Ponics Site (just google it) definately the no.1 info that I've tried.

hi Rob BOB i am setting up a similar system on the Gold Coast and am wondering do i need to cycle the new system and for how long ? also i am trying to do this on a budget what other media can i use other than 100 % expanded clay can i use lava rocks or blue metal to take up some of the space in the grow beds i am also having a hard time finding info on pump head height is the max head height from the top of the pump or the surface of the water in the tank the pump is in and is the max head height set at the height of the outlet even if the outlet goes over the top of the tank and then goes under the water with a venturie just like you have done here

Hello Rob, I found your channel a few days ago and have watched quite a number of your videos. You've reignited an interest in me to grow some of my own food again. I was quite interested and active in gardening in the 90's and life took me to a place where I'm spending hundreds of dollars per month living out of the super market eating inferior and unhealthy food. I am really enjoying your videos and have subscribed to your channel. I'm going to start with getting a composer operating. I look forward to watching the remainder of your videos and am looking forward to new ones. All the best of the new year to you and your family.

Great work Rob. I'm learning heaps from you. Thank you for everything you do.

Great video! thanks a lot!!
Has anyone thought about using the sum tank for DWC ? -
8 cycles an Hr seem way too high, 3-4 cycles is best for fish, less stress, and you seem to think that air shooting into the tank is creating oxygen, its the turbulence on the surface of the water, it has nothing to do with how deep the bubbles are,

bloke from across the ditch here robBob... love your work.. I did have a question. how many litres of aqua clay would there be in each grow bed? I can get 45 ltr bags but I have to ship them and shipping is expensive so I would like to get it roughly right first time.. ibc with std 12 inch medium depth..cycling using the fish food was great advice too,, will try that out

what is the brand of the air pump??

Wow, what a system. I was truly fascinated by the whole system. This may be a crazy question, but does it make a big difference what type of fish he gets to go in his tanks? Or can they be any kind, like bass?
-
Whew! Great job Rob. You can take a deep breath now and relax. Well done and thanks again to the both of you.

Nice and tidy build Rob...like the idea with the inverted lid on the radial flow filter...VERY nice. Do you have any information as to where to purchase the 750 lph back up air compressor with the Lithium Ion batteries ?
