Rice farmers in Mwea farmers want the government to replicate intervention extended to maize farmers and allocate funds for the purchase of rice through the national cereals and produce board. The farmers say that their harvest this season is estimated to be worth 2 billion shillings, but this is unlikely to be realized if they are left at the mercy of middlemen who are buying the product for a low 30 shillings a kilo.
