Farmers in Murang'a county will for the first time engage in commercial rice farming after the county government launched irrigation projects worth over 300 million shillings . Muranga governor Mwangi wa Iria says the scheme will cover over 1,500 acres and is expected to benefit about 10, 000 individuals. The county government also plans to source for markets for the produce . Mwangi said this is in efforts to boost food security.
