Meet Mr & Mrs Wambua who have ventured into intensive farming in Machakos County. Jacob who is a qualified accountant and business administrator resigned from a Branch Manager position form a leading SACCO. After working with farmers and testifying how they were minting hundred of thousands, coupled with passion in farming Wambua decided to quit and concentrate on farming. A 10 acre land located in Mua Hills has over 400 orange trees, over 200 mango trees and over 50 avocados plants, 25 tree tomatoes, sweet passion trees, Bananas. He also have over 2000 strawberries plant and has established a very successful nursery for strawberry seedlings. He also has rabbits, indigenous chicken and 3 dairy cattle and about 7 heifers. Since he resigned Wambua has no regrets. From the dairy cattle alone he is able to produce over 60 litres of milk which he sells at ksh 50 per litre earning about ksh 100,000 an amount he could not earn when he was employed. To achieve this, the Wambuas have invetsed in drip irrigation, small scale mechanization and also they have utilized Mkulima Young soko in selling their farm produce. Mr Wambua is also a digital farmer whoutilizes his Samsung tab to take pictures of his produces dierct in the farm then as a registered member of Mkulima Young Soko he is able to upload the picture direct while he is still in his farm. The Wambuas farm won several awards in the just concluded ASK show in Machakos. His vision is to have a small cottage industry that will be able to supply fresh juice in Machakos County and far.
