TEMPE, ARIZONA — Pro-tip for exchange students studying in the United States: if you’re anywhere near 22-year-old Kalie Rutledge, you might want to speak a language she understands. Rutledge is accused of assaulting a pair of Arizona State University exchange students, who she heard speaking Mandarin on the light rail. The alleged assault occurred on May 20 as the unidentified Asian male and female conversed in their native language. Rutledge had a problem with this and reportedly said: “I don’t speak Chinese, shut the fuck up!” The couple got off the light rail at the next available stop, but Rutledge followed them and allegedly punched the female victim, knocking her out. She left but was later apprehended by police. Rutledge now faces assault, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct charges. She has been arrested multiple times, including for the possession of drug paraphernalia. The Open Doors report on International Educational Exchange ranked ASU No 4 for international students. In the 2014-2015 academic year, ASU hosted 11,330 international students. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
