Lipton’s seat is one of the attractive observation points of Sri Lankan Tourism. It is located on the top of the Poonagala hill near the Dambetenna tea factory in Poonagala, Sri lanka. The place gets this name after the famous tea planter Sir Thomas Lipton used this place to survey the surrounding region of his tea plantations. To reach the place you have to climb about 7 km through rich tea plantations. Some parts of the roads are still not repaired since British built them. Therefore the original stone constructions are abided. From the Lipton’s view you can entertain and have a conspicuous view of the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Eastern provinces including 7 districts. If you are capable enough to travel there on a clear day it will be breath taking. In wanting to be entertained by the entire site, early morning will be fantastic as the mist sets in. Lipton’s seat is a panoramic overlooking destination in Sri lanka. Handapanagala lake, Chandrika lake, Uda walwe lake, Wedi hiti Kanda mountains, and also the hambanthota harbor located in the in the southern coastal area can be seen remarkably. Firstly you have to select the route either Bandarawela via Nayabedda estate or Haputale via Dambetenna Tea estate. Both the routes are fully fledged with lots of gorgeous outlooks, amid with pure green lush green plantations. For a broader and clear over looking, it is recommended to arrive before 10.00am to the Lipton’s seat. By the way progression to the Lipton’s seat is narrowed from the Tea factory. On the way you will also meet St. Catherines seat and Lemasthota Waterfall. St. Catherines seat is also a overlooking point in the Nayabedda estate which will provide a unprecedented and a stunning view of Bandarwela ,Diyatalawa and the Uva valley to the Namunukula mountain range. Actually Lemasthota water fall is not popular and concerned as a water fall among the community. This small waterfall can be seen on your way to Dambetenna from Haputale. March and August are the best months to enjoy and visit at Lipton’s seat. Lipton Seat viewpoint is the most famous place around Haputale. So named after famous Sir Thomas Lipton. Lipton visited Ceylon in 1890s and bought 3 estates. He has built Ceylon largest tea factory in the nearby village Dambatenne. The upper valleys of this are are known to be one of best tea areas all around the island. Whenever Lipton visited this area he used to stay in his bungalow in Dambatenne. he loved it to visit places like Lipton Seat and St. Catherine´s Hill. Good views from east to south are mostly early morning before 10 am. More information about this area at www.haputale.de and geocaching. Near the Dambatenne tea factory, the Lipton’s Seat lookout rivals the views from World’s End (and it’s free). The Scottish tea baron Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his burgeoning empire from here. The Lipton’s Seat is located at Dambetenna in the Haputale Mountain region. This place was a favourite look-outpoint for Sir Thomas Lipton. The point has a fabulous view over Uva, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Eastern provinces. Take the signed narrow paved road from the tea factory and climb about 7km through lush tea plantations to the lookout. From the tea factory the ascent should take about 2½ hours.
