Lecture 12 | Programming Methodology (Stanford)
Lecture by Professor Mehran Sahami for the Stanford Computer Science Department (CS106A). Professor Sahami lectures on Enumeration. CS106A is an Introduction to the engineering of computer applications emphasizing modern software engineering principles: object-oriented design, decomposition, encapsulation, abstraction, and testing. Uses the Java programming language. Emphasis is on good programming style and the built-in facilities of the Java language. Is every Stanford class like this? I find this very interesting unlike engineering high school im going, its all just template.

Hello guys is there some link to higher resolution videos? Or is this only available quality there? Can't see codes. Thanks a lot.

hey! a grilled char 'A'!

I can't believe that there are so many public static finals before assigning different variables in enumeration.

Wow @ the number of peeps that have quit since the first vid. #perseverenceiskey

Even the chalk in his hair didn't distract me from this interesting lecture :D

I'm not sure whether enum has taken off since this was recorded but i'm going to use enum. Somebody's gotta start using it sometime. :D Plus after using both the way he says to do it and the enum way it just seems like the way he says to do it is a lot of extra work that you can have done for you through the enum type. Plus I learned enum in C++ Primer 5th Edition so my brain is already wrapped around the idea of enums. I also did the reading assignment before this lecture and I believe the book actually says to use enum because of the added benefits. Don't know why Mehran is hesitant to teach the new way but I'm sure he has his reasons. One of the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. I hope the person teaching CS106B is this good because I honestly don't have a desire to program in Java. My goal is C++ for game engine design. But thank god CS106B listed this as a prerequisite because this class has really helped me to become a better software engineer no matter what language i'm using. I never could wrap my brain around OOP using the C++ Primer book. Mehran and the Art and Science of Java make things much easier to understand. Cheers to Stanford for giving us this awesome resource for free. You are making the world a better place.
