Learn How Cinnamon is Grown and Harvested #561
http://www.therenegadehealthshow.com - I thought this part of the tour was even more educational than the vanilla beans... Our tour guide showed us how cinnamon is grown and harvested, plus she let us try it fresh from the wood. (Cinnamon is an inner bark of the cinnamon tree) The cinnamon that they grow here in Costa Rica is Ceylon cinnamon and is quite different than the cassia cinnamon we're used to. Take a look...

Cinnamon is excellent for many sweet and savory recipes -
I also use the hard bark variety for pest control (ants & many others) - yep, they don't like it. Place the 1-1/2 to 2" long pieces here and there around the house and even on the surface soil of your plants, depending on the top surface area of the pot, for a small pot one piece etcetera.
Keep away from pets areas just in case they try to chew it, it 'may' not be good for them). -
Preparing a list of plants I'd like to include in my off-grid home in the future.
I'm going to need the surface area of a smaller nation :( -
I like it on vanilla ice cream and in coffee

I use cinnamon in a hot drink prepared in the same way as an espresso latte coffee. I grind the bark (about one quill) in my coffee grinder into a semi-fine powder, I use an electric espresso maker, place the powder into the shot cannister (it usually fills half a shot). I run the shot as normal directly into my mug of pre-warmed milk. So sweet and strong! Mmmm just finished one now...

Can you tell me what is done with the rest of the branch once the 'inner bark' is scraped off to use for cinnamon sticks?
I want to grow a tree but don't like waste so wonder- can they be used for firewood? Can you eat the rest of the branch in some way- like boil it to make a tea?...or what does the company the girl works at do with the left over branches if only the inner bark is used? -
Very informative ~ gracias!

I like to use cinnamon in oatmeal, on toast, teas, pancakes, breads (raisin), butter, soups, and on apples. Basically though I can sneak a hint of cinnamon into almost anything that is cooked at fairly high temps for a "kick" of spiciness and good health.
Thank you very much for the video! -
Thanks for the info! Now I know to always look for Ceylon. The woman is also very pretty.

I started drinking it as a tea because a friend of mine from Pakistan introduced it to me. It has drastically changed my appetite and I don't seem to be as hungry now. I drink some before bed and when I wake up.

Very informative video. In Jamaica we usually use cinnamon in porridge and pastries and we drink the tea as well.
