http://www.aswetravel.com/laos-as-we-travel-show-episode-3/ Southern Laos As We Travel Asia We’ve just arrived in Pakxe, we took a ten hour overnight bus from Vientiane, the capital of Laos. So we’re down in southern Laos right now. I had a really bad sleep, well, I didn’t really sleep at all. We had beds on the bus, but it doesn’t really help when you are six foot two and the bed comes up to your knees. So, I can’t really complain much more than that, it was just horrible. But now we are down in southern Laos, Pakxe. We are going to check out the area down here because there’s some waterfalls, ethnic villages, and some beautiful nature here as well. Is the center of town just over here? Not like center center but like, breakfast restaurants, places to eat? Like, just here? Yeah. This is the center? No, no, no motor bike. It is a cool motor bike. Nice to meet you have a nice day. Let’s go and find some breakfast. I was looking for the waterfall just before and I realized it’s just in front of us right here. We’re actually above the waterfall so be careful. We’ll see if we can get a good shot, okay? Is there water inside? Boy, it’s loud! This is our third and final waterfall. It’s really impressive. We have been travelling around all day on a tuk tuk. We’ve gone to three waterfalls, we’ve gone through an ethnic village, and we’ve also gone through a coffee and a tea plantation. For me, the biggest highlight so far, apart from this waterfall, is of course those ethnic villages. In northern Laos we saw those everywhere and we were sort of worried, coming down here, that we wouldn’t see this authentic, native way of life anymore. So we were pleasantly surprised that even though Vietnam is just over there, and Thailand is just over there, Cambodia is just around the corner, they are still living this primitive, authentic, natural way of life that is incredible to see. It is really special to be able to interact with these kids, and parents, and they are all really friendly. It blew both me and Sophia away, it was really beautiful. We’ve had a wonderful day. We’re down here in the 4000 islands. We’ve spent the last three weeks going through the whole country of Laos. It’s been a pretty adventurous time. We’ve had some crazy ups and some crazy downs, and the worst, of course, was we lost over 400GB of film from the whole northern part of Laos, we lost it all. So we can’t show you any of the ethnic villages, any of the amazing scenery up in the North there. That was really hard to deal with but we bought some new hard drives, we bought a new tripod, we got our stuff together again and we’ve been filming down in southern Laos here and you know we had some ups and downs about Laos, is it good is it bad, and we realized that most of the bad memories that we’ve had from Laos have just been me and Sophia’s sort of personal things to deal with. So the reality is, Laos as a country, Laos as a culture is absolutely incredibly. For me, the two most amazing things; of course the nature, absolutely beautiful here, absolutely spectacular, and of course, the people. The kids are just so friendly, they want to talk to you and they are so curious about what we’re doing. It was just, the warmth was just so amazing to experience. I’m going to finish this episode, relaxing down here in the 4000 islands with some incredible nature.
