Located southeast of Kyoto, the town of Wazuka isn't a place most tourists make it out to, despite how charming the rural community can be. But this weekend (November 7th - 8th, 2015) you may want to reconsider, seeing as the annual Chagenkyo Matsuri, also known as the Teatopia Festival, is being held at the Wazuka Sports Park! At the Chagenkyo Matsuri you can explore the world of green tea in Wazuka, one of the first places chosen to grow tea when it was imported from China over 800 years ago. Take a tour through tea fields, watch how the locals hand roll the tea leaves in preparation, sample the Japanese varieties of tea and learn their differences, or wander over to the World Tea Promenade to sample tea from all over the world! With local arts, food, music, and kind people, a trip to the Chagenkyo Matsuri may be a fun day for the tea, art, or country enthusiast! Our team certainly enjoyed it!
